Amy Schurr is content marketing director for NowSecure. A former B2B journalist, she has spent her career covering technology and how it enables organizations.

Last week open-source software experts, mobile application DevSecOps leaders and practitioners and federal government specialists convened in Washington, D.C., at the first annual NowSecure Connect conference.

The purpose of #Connect19 was to connect people, ideas, and technology by bringing together the top global technologists and industry thought leaders with a shared passion for delivering secure mobile apps at scale. At the end of the event, our goal was to ensure everyone walked away from the Kaiser Permanente Center for Total Health with new knowledge, insights and professional connections with peers.

Attendees heard from OSS innovators including Nikias Bassen (Libimobile), Simeon Cloutier (SEDATED), Rajesh Dhanaraj (Hygieia), Giovanni Grazioli (r2dec), Leon Jacobs (Objection), Giovanni Rocca (DWARF) and Ryan Speers (KillerBee). They were joined by NowSecure researchers Sergi “Pancake” Alvarez (Radare), Eduardo Novella (APKiD), Ole Andre Ravnas (Frida), among others.

Mobile AppSec managers from top companies such as Allstate, American Express, SAIC, Vaporstream and Verizon Media imparted advice about embarking on the DevOps transformation and uniting security and development teams.

NowSecure CEO Alan Snyder shared statistics about the global mobile app economy and what it means for DevSecOps, while NowSecure services team offered numerous best practices for mobile app threat modeling and pen testing based on their extensive experience and expertise serving our customers.

Customers benefited from in-depth, hands-on training for NowSecure solutions to take their skills to the next level and make the most of the testing tools. They also heard about the future direction of our products from Senior Vice President of Engineering Jeff Fairman and Vice President of Product Management Warren Smith.

And, given the event location in D.C, we had a considerable amount of federal government security professionals on hand who learned more about measuring mobile app risk and scaling app vetting and also the mobile Continuous Diagnostics & Mitigation program and National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) compliance.

NowSecure Connect also featured a DevOps zone supported by partners Brinqa, Security Innovation and Sonatype. There, users could learn about the latest product enhancements and integrations and watch demos.

Finally, conference goers had the opportunity to win prizes at a spirited CMD+CTRL Capture-the-Flag competition and enjoyed the NowSecure Connect-i-thon evening cocktail reception sponsored by Security Innovations.

All in all, it was an amazing event and truly offered something for everyone. Please plan to join us next year!
