Remote Workforce Mobile App Security Recommendations

As many businesses and government agencies transition to a work-from-home reality, there is an immediate need for mobile apps and other resources to support remote employees. Sadly, as we have seen before, the spike in mobile app traffic grabs the attention of the attackers as well. We recognize the urgent need to ensure the security and privacy of these mobile apps for remote work that are fast becoming critical to daily operations.

Therefore, as part of our NowSecure Mission to save the world from unsafe mobile apps, we benchmarked the security and privacy of 25 useful apps across 5 categories for your remote workforce of mobile app users on iOS and Android smartphones and tablets. NowSecure has tested the following mobile apps for critical vulnerabilities and risky data leakage, and our baseline testing found these apps to be reasonably secure.

We are providing this information now so that organizations can be confident the mobile apps they use or are considering for use are properly protecting their business and their mobile users.

NowSecure Testing Methodology

The NowSecure Platform uses automated static, dynamic and interactive analysis for deep testing of mobile app binaries. Built on a decade of experience in mobile forensics and mobile pen testing, the automated NowSecure Platform tests actual mobile app binaries on real iOS and Android devices using an attacker POV to uncover security vulnerabilities, privacy risks and compliance gaps. This benchmark included a full battery of SAST+DAST+IAST analysis in a non-authenticated mode. NowSecure conducted the tests on the mobile app versions that were available in the Apple AppStore™ and Google Play™ on March 18, 2020.
