7th Annual API Cybersecurity Conference – Good App Gone Bad

viaForensics is very excited to be presenting at the American Petroleum Institute (API) 7th Annual Cybersecurity Conference and Expo (agenda) in Houston. If you’re there, please come over and say “hi”.

Session Title

Good app gone bad: Turning a helpful oil & gas app into mobile malware

Session Topic

Mobility/Mobile Device Management & Alternative Models

Short Session Abstract

While many articles and presentations discuss risks and threats at a theoretical level, in this session we demonstrate how an apparently benign and helpful Oil & Gas Android app can actually host mobile malware. In short, a good Android app gone bad. The session will discuss mobile risk factors and potential damage. The key takeaway is the concrete demonstration of mobile malware in action and its consequences. Many cyber security professionals are challenged in their organizations to quantify risk and justify security procedures, restrictions and budget. This demonstration helps make the risks more tangible and, perhaps, move the needle in the direction of sound mobile security policies.
