We’re always looking for feedback from customers and customers-to-be. It helps us refine our products in order to meet real world needs in mobile security technology. It also helps us educate our users when they might have concerns or misconceptions about how our technology works and what it can help them accomplish. Recently, we’ve had a few people voice similar questions about viaLab and its scalability, and figured this would be a good place to address some of those queries.
Automation and Hands On Testing
viaLab was created as a mobile application security assessment suite that accelerates the process of identifying risks and vulnerabilities in both custom and third-party mobile apps. It tests how an app handles sensitive data and network traffic, examines the strength of the app’s authentication methods, and allows researchers to analyze the code for security flaws.
“viaLab allow(s) you to achieve in 20 minutes what it formerly took a team of four analysts more than three weeks to accomplish. “
While much of this process is automated, it’s important to note that researchers and analysts remain involved in the viaLab experience. Automation is ideal for many processes _ in fact, viaLab automates about 80% of the tests it performs, allowing you to achieve in 20 minutes what it formerly took a team of four analysts more than three weeks to accomplish. Nearly 70% of app security flaws are discoverable using automation, but there are some tests that simply require hands-on involvement by a human being capable of digging around and really going down the rabbit hole. One of the key understandings we reached when developing viaLab was that fully automated solutions that completely removed the analysts from the security equation failed. There just isn’t a way to automate the creativity of the human brain when solving problems, and with mobile being a constantly shifting, constantly evolving space, you need to include human beings with their creative, problem solving brains as part of any comprehensive mobile security testing solution.
“One of the key understandings we reached when developing viaLab was that fully automated solutions that completely removed the analysts from the security equation failed. “
We’ve built an API framework to ensure that viaLab can be integrated and automated with more and more tools and we will continue to heavily invest in automation. About 80% of what viaLab does right now is incredibly scalable, and we hope to increase that number in the future. But will viaLab ever reach 100% automation? Probably not, because to do so, we would have to forego using one of the best, most creative security technologies ever created _ the human mind.
